A Hard Silence Book Signing and Q&A with Melanie Brooks on Jan. 18, 2024, 6 p.m.

Join us on January 18th at 6pm for an evening with Melanie Brooks, author of A Hard Silence. When Melanie was a young girl, her father, a thoracic surgeon, had a heart attack. He contracted HIV/AIDS from a blood transfusion during the resulting open-heart surgery. During a time when fear of AIDS overrode compassion for its victims, having to hide this family crisis from friends, church and community intensified the suffering for the whole family. A Hard Silence is a thoughtful, well written memoir that explores the legacy of trauma when family secrecy prevents open conversations and the natural processing of grief.
